Steve Aoki is an electronic dance music star. He is also a DJ and was named the highest grossing dance artist in North America in 2012. He received a Billboard Music Award for best mix album of the year in 2008 and a Grammy nomination in 2013. Some of his performance antics involve throwing cakes into his fans’ faces and tossing rafts into the crowd in order to crowd surf during the show.Aoki has even gone so far as to jump from scaffolding, a height of about twenty feet, onto these rafts. The rafts are supported by the fans that are holding them up. Unfortunately, when that sort of pressure is applied to these fans, injuries happen.
In 2012, one fan suffered seriously as a result of this performance style during a show at the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego. This unlucky fan could potentially seek compensation for the injuries he endured. In these situations, it’s best to call a qualified San Diego personal injury lawyer to discuss your case.
In 2012 Brittany, a young Midwestern transplant to the West, was an audience member at a Steve Aoki concert in San Diego. At one point during the show the artist threw an inflatable pool raft into the crowd and scaled a makeshift stage to jump onto the raft. His body hit Brittany, who was trapped underneath the raft and did not see him coming. She was knocked unconscious. When she came to she was at the venue’s medical treatment facility and a staff member was tending to her ankle. After going home and finding herself in even more pain she took a trip to the emergency room. At this point she was told that her neck was broken. The case is now set for trial before Judge Pressman of the San Diego Superior Court on August 28, 2015.
Researchers have found that from 1992 to 2002 there were 787 people suffering from a serious injury obtained at an outdoor music concert. In addition, during this time 232 people died from injuries at these concerts. Of that group there were forty-one deaths that occurred to fans that were at the front of the concert’s stage. The crowd-pleasing, high-energy performances tend to provoke that sort of high-energy response from the concertgoers. Although the thrill can be nothing short of exhilarating, it only takes a moment to suffer a serious injury. As Brittany explained, “Your life can be changed so much based off of another person’s reckless actions.” Minor incidents such as bumping and bruising can be expected, but paying attention to the reckless behaviors of those around you can help prevent a major injury.
